Carol is on the Prowl for BABIES
Many of the experts say that late term AD patients have the mental level of a 2 yr. old child. I don’t know about that but Carol sure likes to watch and talk to young children. We purposely go to McDonalds, IHOP, and CiCi’s so that we can see the children. Sometime they are sitting closely and they seem to know that Carol loves them because they keep looking back at her and making faces when she makes faces at them. We have calling cards with “Thank you for being patient with my Wife. She has Alzheimer’s.” and I give one to the parents so they won’t think we are crazy. The results are just great. Once the mother encouraged her two girls to go over and talk to that nice lady. They came over to our booth. The smallest climbed up beside Carol and actually gave her a hug and a kiss. I just wish that Carol could have remembered it longer. We used to work in the nursery once a month and that was always a good day but I had to give it up because my severally degenerated back made me worry that I might fall when picking them up and/or carrying them. But Carol still seems to have a vague memory of our Sundays with the Babies.

ReplyDeleteMy youngest son is 12 and playing baseball for the first time. Mom and Dad have come to his game, but Mom has come with me alone, giving Dad a well-needed-deserved break. I say break, I'm sure he spent most of his time on the computer, which he loves and SO DESPERATELY needs, or fast-forwarding his recorded TV shows. That confuses Mom, she doesn't understand what is happening to the TV.
ReplyDeleteWell, unfortunately the last game Mom came to, Garrett's team was behind 3-1 going into the 2nd inning. By the end of the 2nd inning it was 24-0. Very sad game. However, one of the families on the team have 4 boys and just adopted a little girl from China, HOPE. I sat Mom near her stroller, and I don't think she even realized there was a game going on. She watched Hope, talked to hope, watched all the other kids playing with Hope. It's amazing - Mom can't speak a sentence and make sense, but she can talk to little babies, and say things like, "You're so beautiful! You're so pretty!" She's TOTALLY understandable! Thank you, Lord!
Well after the totally depressing game, we got in the car, and Mom said to Garrett, "Oh, it was wonderful!" She, of course, meant the babies and adorable kids. Garrett said, "Right, Mimi! It was just WONDERFUL!" We have to laugh, knowing we're not laughing AT her, but you just have to laugh. It WAS a wonderful night to her!
